The Small Halls

The Small Halls are a collection of spaces scattered across Ontario’s tiny towns and hamlets. These locations are enviable for many reasons. They’re naturally located near the best food. They’re steeped in history. They boast incredible acoustics. They’re the only venues we work in that offer onsite bowling!

The Duntroon Hall

Hauled overland by a flotilla of livestock trucks and hay wagons drawn by farm tractors, community members of old Nottawasaga Township brought home to their “capital” the building that would become the new centre for their municipal government and the community’s main gathering place. These volunteers and many more disassembled this former military drill hall in Base Borden, and then pieced it back together at the edge of Duntroon’s historic 5-acre Islay Park.

A real advantage in using these halls is that they really are set up to be used.  Each hall has enough tables and chairs to meet it’s capacity, something rarely found in most event spaces. And many of them have their own bowling alleys too.  The Duntroon Hall boasts a dual lane bowling alley with automatic pin reset and ball retrieval, as well as a dart board and pig pong table. There is a large stage with a concession style bar, as well as a second stage with a piano, perfect for a band or that uncle that you know is going to sing anyways.

With a lot size of 5 acres, there’s plenty of room at this hall for outdoor games as well, not to mention outdoor cooking and potentially even overnight camping.

The Avening Hall

Avening Hall boasts some of the best acoustics of any venue we’ve worked in and is the perfect location if music is an important part of your celebration.  Located right off highway 7, this hall is so close to Toronto that if you were considering an event space near Pearson Airport, or out in Mississauga you’d be just as well to book Avening Hall.

There’s lots of parking, a beautiful modern kitchen and a dual lane bowling alley with automatic pin reset and ball retrieval.  You can keep tally on the vintage scoreboard and there’s even a trophy case to keep you feeling competitive.  Avening Hall is a great venue for family celebrations and weddings: there’s lots of room to run around and games to entertain the kids.

Dunedin Hall

Located just around the corner from Creemore, The Dunedin Hall sits on the banks of the Noisy River.  The smallest of all the small halls, Dunedin Hall is one of our favourites if only for its proximity to the best food. There’s lots of room to cook outdoors, in addition to the full indoor kitchen.  A large open seating area with ground level entry and no stairs makes this space fully accessible. The washrooms are in the basement, but this area is also accessible from the side door.
